The Russians opened a 46-32 cushion midway through the third quarter and held a 12-point margin with just under two minutes to play in the period, but Lithuania scored the final eight points and opened the fourth with a three from Kaukenas to pull within 54-53.

Khryapa quickly answered with a shot from beyond the arc and the Russians soon after ran off seven straight to open a 64-55 edge with 5:46 remaining. Kaukenas responded with a triple, but Lithuania never got closer than five.

A three-point play by Songaila made it a 77-72 game with 1:35 left, but Lithuania failed to trim the deficit further on its next two possessions and Vitaliy Fridzon hit two from the line to extend the Russia lead to seven with 32 seconds to play.

Russia closed the first quarter with an 11-1 run to build a 17-10 lead and led by as many as nine in the second before taking a 32-27 advantage to the break.
