Envelope with white powder sent to Ronald Reagan Library

SIMI VALLEY, Calif. – Hazardous material and fire crews responded to the Ronald Reagan Library Monday afternoon after a worker opened an envelope containing a white powder.

A spokeswoman, however, said there was no threat to the public.

Authorities checked the worker who opened the envelope and she is fine, library spokeswoman Melissa Giller said. Two others who reacted to the discovery of the white powder also were cleared.

An area where administrative staffers work was cordoned off, but the museum, cafe and other facilities remained open at the hilltop library about 35 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles.

Ventura County Fire Capt. Mike Linbery told the Ventura County Star that no one has been treated for injuries and the hazardous materials team is testing the powder to see what it is.
