A witness in Guatemala's embezzlement trial of former President Alfonso Portillo says millions of dollars were hauled from a state-owned bank to the leader when he was in power.
Witness Armando Llort testified Thursday that in 2001, he passed three loads of 30 million quetzales ($3.5 million) apiece from the bank to the head of Portillo's security detail, who took the money away in an armored car.
Portillo allegedly stole $15 million from Guatemala's defense department while he was president from 2000 to 2004. He maintains he is innocent.

He also faces an extradition request from the United States, on charges of embezzling $1.5 million in foreign donations.
