Firefighters in Cape Town said the wildfire raging around Cape Town's iconic Table Mountain is still not under control after four days fighting the blaze.

Spokesman Theo Layne said on Wednesday that three houses had burned down and five more were damaged as the fire spread across the city's southern peninsula. He said no fatalities or new injuries had been reported.

Layne said about 150 firefighters were working 24-hour shifts in hot summer temperatures. The South African Weather Service said Cape Town's temperature reached a high of 29 degrees Celsius (about 84 degrees Fahrenheit). Layne said the short-lived rain showers were not enough to quell the fire.

The wildfire started on Sunday and was briefly brought under control, but a bigger fire started early on Monday morning and has continued.
