Anti-government protesters gathered again Friday morning in Burkina Faso's capital.

The crowds used violent demonstrations Thursday to prevent the parliament from voting to allow President Blaise Compaore, in power for 27 years, to seek another term in office.

In response to the protests, Compaore vowed to form a transitional government with the opposition until elections next year and then relinquish power.

Compaore's plan may not satisfy the opposition.

It was not immediately clear Friday if the protesters would press for any new demands. On Thursday they sacked and burned the parliament, attacked Cabinet ministers' houses and looted around the country.

In response to the chaos, the military dissolved parliament and promised an interim government would be named. Compaore later declared he would remain in charge during that transition.
