Polish farmers ride on Warsaw as their leaders negotiate state compensation for lost profit
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Hundreds of Polish farmers are driving their tractors toward Warsaw, where their leaders are seeking government compensation for crops destroyed by wild boar and profits undercut by Russia's import ban.
Many put hand-written "bank-owned" notes on their tractors, to suggest they need bank loans to run their farms. People along the roads waved to them as they drove toward the capital city on Wednesday. In an agreement with the police, they were to stop on the outskirts and not to block the city.
Radical farmers leader Stanislaw Izdebski said Agriculture Minister Marek Sawicki was not offering to meet their demands and warned of an escalation of the protest.
