A French police official says authorities believe a Canadian porn actor wanted for the grisly slaying of a Chinese man in Montreal spent at least one night in a hotel northeast of Paris in recent days.
Luka Rocco Magnotta is wanted by authorities in Canada on first-degree murder and other charges. He is suspected of killing Jun Lin — a 33-year-old Chinese university student he dated — and filming the attack and mailing the victim's dismembered body parts.
A police official involved in the search said Monday that investigators confirmed that Magnotta had spent time in the Batignolles neighborhood of northwest Paris, plus at least one night in a hotel in Bagnolet, northeast of the capital.

The official, speaking on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the case, also expressed frustration about leaks in the French press over efforts to catch Magnotta, 29.
