Poland's PM slams previous gov't as harmful, wasteful

Poland's conservative prime minister has accused the previous government of "egoism, wastefulness, contempt" toward citizens and warned of consequences to those responsible.

Beata Szydlo made the accusations in a parliament speech Wednesday summing up the eight-year rule of the Civic Platform and Polish People's Party coalition that was ousted in elections last year and is now in the opposition.

She called for lawmakers to form a special commission to investigate a financial scandal involving a pyramid scheme, and warned of prosecution.

Her speech was part of a policy by the ruling right-wing Law and Justice party of discrediting political opponents as the party makes sweeping changes to state offices and to social policy, often through purges and accusations.
