Israeli troops kill Palestinian man; military says he attacked army post

A spokesman for the Palestinian Red Crescent says Israeli troops shot and killed a man in the West Bank. The military says the man attacked an army post.

Palestinian Red Crescent spokesman Ali Obedat identified the man as 22-year-old Mohammed Mubarak. He said Mubarak was found with 3 bullet wounds in his back.

The Israeli military says its forces shot Mubarak after he opened fire at an army post. The military says soldiers felt "an imminent threat to their lives" and opened fire. It was not immediately clear if Mubarak had links to a militant group.

Violence between Israelis and Palestinians in the West Bank has increased over recent months, as leaders continue peace negotiations that have failed to show tangible signs of progress.
