Irish lawmakers on Friday voted in favour of controversial new legislation which will allow for abortion in limited cases where the mother's life is at risk, broadcaster RTE announced.

Members voted 127-31 in favour of the government's plans to legalise abortion for life-threatening cases, including those in which the mother is deemed a suicide risk, it added.
