Guatemala vice president Baldetti steps down amid corruption scandal implicating top aide
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Guatemala's vice president is resigning amid a customs corruption scandal that has implicated her former private secretary.
President Otto Perez Molina announced Friday that Vice President Roxana Baldetti will leave office.
He says she is doing so "voluntarily" and intends to cooperate with investigators.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Baldetti had previously resisted calls that she step down.
Her onetime aide, Juan Carlos Monzon Rojas, is alleged to have been the ringleader of a scheme in which officials defrauded the state of millions of dollars by taking bribes to charge lower customs duties.
