Explosion heard in Kabul near police HQ, courts: Interior Ministry confirms

Afghanistan's Interior Ministry says an explosion has taken place at the police headquarters in the capital Kabul.

Spokesman Sediq Sediqqi says the explosion happened in the compound of the Kabul police chief's office at about 9 a.m.

He says the area was crowded at the time, but there are no details yet of casualties.

The explosion came about two hours after another blast was heard in the city. Defense Ministry spokesman Gen. Mohammad Zahair Azimi says that explosion was an attack on an Afghan army vehicle that resulted in no casualties.

Taliban insurgents claimed responsibility for both attacks.
