Egyptian troops and police stormed the village of Kerdassah near Cairo Thursday in the latest crackdown on militants, media and security officials said.
State news agency MENA reported that a senior police officer was killed in the operation.
A security official told AFP that vehicles carrying armed personnel entered the village while army helicopters hovered above.

"The operation is to clear the village of terrorist elements," the official said, adding that one soldier had been wounded.
A military source confirmed the operation in Kerdassah, where clashes between security forces and armed groups had erupted just hours after Egypt's authorities launched a crackdown on two camps of supporters of ousted president Mohamed Morsi in Cairo on August 14.
That fighting left 11 security officers dead while several police stations were torched.

Egyptian police and troops have launched a sustained campaign against militants and Islamists since the army's ouster of Morsi on July 3.
The operation in Kerdassah comes after a similar crackdown was launched in the town of Delga in central Egypt on Monday.
