An Egyptian court has postponed a decision on whether to implement an order to freeze the assets of a prominent investigative journalist and a top rights advocate.
The Thursday decision by the Cairo Criminal Court comes after a judicial commission ordered the freeze last week on the accounts of Hossam Bahgat and Gamal Eid, as well as those of Eid's wife and 11-year-old daughter. The next hearing will be on April 20.
Egypt's state news agency reported last week that the defendants were accused of illegally receiving $1.5 million from foreign parties. All deny the charges.

Bahgat's investigative pieces have exposed political corruption in Egypt and an alleged foiled coup plot inside the military. Eid heads a rights advocacy group, the Arabic Network for Human Rights Information.
