Costa Rican to talk with UN on Nicaraguan dispute

Costa Rica's foreign minister will meet with United Nations officials to discuss the Central American nation's border dispute with Nicaragua.

The Foreign Ministry says Rene Castro will go to New York on Monday for talks with members of the Security Council and General Assembly.

Both Castro and President Laura Chinchilla have warned they could take the dispute to the Security Council if Nicaragua continues to refuse to withdraw troops from disputed territory along the San Juan border river. Nicaragua sent troops to the area last month.

Costa Rica has already taken the case to the International Court of Justice and the Organization of American States.

The Foreign Ministry announced Castro's trip Wednesday.
