An armed man who burst into a hotel in the French Riviera resort of Cannes stole jewels worth around $136 million (103 million euros), prosecutors said Monday, in one of the world's biggest jewellery thefts.

Authorities had initially estimated the heist -- which took place on Sunday in broad daylight -- was worth around 40 million euros.
