Britain announcing changes to anti-terror laws
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Britain's government is publishing proposed reforms of its unpopular counterterrorism laws to strike a new balance between personal freedoms and public safety.
Home Secretary Theresa May will announce later Wednesday new rules to restrict powers held by police and prosecutors to combat terrorism.
May is expected to confirm curbs on police powers to stop and search suspects. She will also announce a drastic cut in the amount of time officers are permitted to detain those arrested over purported plots before they must be charged with a crime or freed.
