CAIRO – Leading opposition figure Amr Moussa is urging Egypt's Islamist president to listen to the voices of opposition and respond to their demands by holding early presidential elections.
In an interview with The Associated Press on Thursday, Moussa, a leading member of Egypt's biggest opposition grouping, the National Salvation Front, said the opposition is not calling for "the bringing down of the regime or staging a coup but to go to the ballot box" to change the president.
Moussa's remarks came after embattled President Mohammed Morsi delivered a lengthy speech late Wednesday ahead of opposition-led mass rallies on June 30 that aimed at forcing him from office citing his failure after a year in power.
Moussa urged protesters to remain peaceful, stay away from violence and "you shall prevail."
