Police say two Chinese diplomats have been killed and another wounded by a Chinese attacker armed with a pistol in a restaurant in the central Philippines.

Police Chief Superintendent Prudencio Tom Banas said the deputy consul-general and a finance officer at the Chinese Consulate in Cebu city were killed Wednesday by the attacker, who also wounded the consul-general.

Banas said by telephone that the Chinese attacker was taken into custody by police.

He said the victims and the attacker were attending a birthday lunch at the restaurant when the shooting occurred for still unclear reasons.
