The U.N. says the first group of Iranian opposition group exiles has moved to Albania from a former U.S. military base near Baghdad as part of a relocation process.
In a statement Thursday, U.N. envoy Martin Kobler said 14 members of the Mujahedeen-e-Khalq arrived in Albania late Wednesday, the first of 210 residents accepted by the Albanian government.
About 3,000 Iranian exiles were moved from northeastern Iraq to a refugee camp outside Baghdad last year, part of an effort to ensure their peaceful departure from Iraq.

Iraq's government is eager to get rid of the MEK, which fought alongside Saddam Hussein's forces in the 1980s Iran-Iraq war.
The group opposes Iran's clerical regime and carried out assassinations and bombings in Iran before renouncing violence in 2001.
