A 20-year-old woman described as "erratic and aggressive" who drove a vehicle into a U.S. Capitol Police cruiser is scheduled to make her first appearance in court.

Taleah Everett is expected to appear in federal court Thursday afternoon.

Capitol Police spokeswoman Eva Malecki said that shots were fired during the incident Wednesday, but the event appeared to be criminal in nature with "no nexus to terrorism." No one was injured, and the Capitol remained open. Streets in the area were closed for nearly three hours.

Malecki said police attempted to stop Everett but she fled, nearly hitting officers and striking at least one other vehicle. A brief pursuit followed. Malecki said shots were fired "during the attempt to arrest the suspect," but declined to elaborate further.
