Utah thieves accused of using shop vacuum to suck quarters from machine automatic car wash

Police say a pair of enterprising burglars used a powerful shop vacuum to suck quarters out a coin-operated machine at a car wash.

The duo drew the suspicion of a police officer and failed to make a clean getaway.

Police in the Salt Lake City suburb of Cottonwood Heights say they arrested 53-year-old Todd Herburg and 55-year-old Scott Luker on suspicion of burglary Wednesday.

Police Sgt. Gary Young says the bandits were at work for 12 minutes, sucking coins out of the coin dispensary of a stand-alone vacuum cleaner at the car wash. He says they used their own shop vacuum to do the work.

Police haven't counted their stash of quarters yet.
