Rescued Idaho sheep hungry, thirsty, immobilized by 50 pounds of wool

This November 2014 photo from the Idaho's Canyon County Sheriff's Office shows a sheep that has been named Dolly before having some 50 pounds of matted wool shorn from her in Caldwell, Idaho. Officials in Idaho's Canyon County said the sheep found down in a field after more than five days without food or water had a problem beyond hunger and dehydration — she was virtually immobilized by nearly 50 pounds of matted, urine-soaked wool. Workers at the county shelter said it took three people nearly an hour "to cut her free from her wool shackles." It's not clear how long it's been since Dolly was sheared. Now she's reported to be improving daily and will be looking for a new home when she's cleared as healthy. (AP Photo/Canyon County Sheriff's Office) (The Associated Press)

A sheep found in a field after more than five days without food or water had a problem beyond hunger and dehydration — she was virtually immobilized by nearly 50 pounds of matted, urine-soaked wool.

KBOI-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1xQFyC3 ) the sheep that Idaho's Canyon County animal shelter workers have named Dolly was rescued earlier this month.

The shelter says it took three people nearly an hour "to cut her free from her wool shackles."

Now she's improving daily and will be looking for a new home when she's cleared as healthy.

The sheep was found west of Boise, and her owner has not been identified.

Sheriff's Lt. William Adams says sheep need regular shearing so they can move freely. He says it was obvious Dolly hadn't been properly cared for.
