ARLINGTON, Va. – Police say a man walked into a George Mason University classroom, announced he was making a citizen's arrest, and pepper-sprayed a professor.
Arlington County Police say 31-year-old Jonathan Pendleton of Alexandria also used a stun gun on a student who tried to assist the professor. Police arrested Pendleton as he tried to handcuff the professor on the Arlington campus.
Officials say medics treated 12 to 15 people, including the professor, for breathing issues.
The school says the professor was not seriously hurt.
Pendleton was charged with abduction and assault with a caustic material and is being held pending a preliminary hearing next month. The university says Pendleton is not a student.
