Kentucky State Police say they're investigating after a deputy fatally shot a kidnapping suspect in southeastern Kentucky.
Police said in a statement that the Knox County deputy shot 30-year-old Jessie J. Mills of Flat Lick during an altercation Wednesday night along a highway.
The statement said the deputy and a constable had responded to a report around 9:50 p.m. that an intoxicated Mills had abducted a child from a home and left. The law enforcement officers located Mills and the child walking along a highway about an hour later. Police say there was an altercation as the officers approached and the deputy fired his weapon.
