Man trying to propose marriage wreaks havoc on Dutch town

A crane which crashed into the roof of a house is seen following an unusual marriage proposal by a man who wished to be lifted in front of the bedroom window of his girlfriend to ask for her hand in marriage, in the central Dutch town of IJsselstein, Saturday Dec. 13, 2014. No people were injured in the accident, the groom-to-be jumped to safety without injuries and his girlfriend accepted to marry him, according to local Dutch media. A Dutchman's attempt at a romantic wedding proposal was a smashing success, but not in the way he had hoped.

The unidentified lover in the central town of Ijsselstein rented a crane to descend in front of his girlfriend's bedroom window first thing Saturday morning, then to play her a song and pop her the question. Instead the crane toppled, smashing a hole in the neighbors' roof.

According to reports in Algemeen Dagblad, the girlfriend said "yes" anyway and after speaking with the police, the pair traveled to Paris to celebrate their engagement.

Then the crane fell again during attempts to right it with a larger crane, widening the hole. The neighbors' house has been declared unsafe, and two buildings on either side of it have been evacuated as well.
