A suspect has been returned to Virginia to face charges that he abducted a 12-year-old girl and took her to California after her mother was killed.

Authorities say 32-year-old Jeffrey Easley arrived in Roanoke Wednesday night.

He's being held at the Roanoke County-Salem Jail without bail. His arraignment on charges of abduction and credit card fraud has been postponed until Friday afternoon because of a winter storm.

The girl, Brittany Smith, was with Easley when police arrested him last week outside a San Francisco supermarket.

The girl went missing after authorities found the body of her mother, Tina Smith, on Nov. 29. The death is considered a homicide. Easley had been the woman's live-in boyfriend.
