Los Angeles teen boxer died of ruptured spleen

A 16-year-old California boxer who died after sparring at a Burbank gym died because of a ruptured spleen.

The Los Angeles County coroner's office says Raul Alvarez Jr. died on July 26 from massive internal bleeding cause by the ruptured spleen.

The Los Angeles Daily News reports on Wednesday that Burbank police have now closed the case and charges won't be pursued.

Alvarez had complained of pain after light sparring with a partner at Pullmans Gym and he became unconscious at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center.
  
Officials say Alvarez was wearing a helmet and other protective gear while sparring with someone about his age and build.
