Killer of Michigan trooper hospitalized after prison cell suicide attempt

An official says a man sentenced to life in prison last week for the slaying of a Michigan state trooper remains hospitalized after trying to kill himself.
Department of Corrections spokesman Russ Marlan tells The Associated Press in an email Wednesday morning that Eric Knysz is in the hospital.
Marlan says he couldn't confirm details about the condition of Knysz.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Marlan earlier said Knysz tried to hang himself with a bed sheet Monday afternoon. Knysz was being held at a detention center in Jackson.
Knysz was convicted of first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of Trooper Paul Butterfield II. Knysz was sentenced April 8 to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Authorities said Knysz had stolen guns with him when Butterfield pulled him over in western Michigan.
