A Las Vegas judge has set bail at $40,000 for a 29-year-old single mother accused of letting her four dogs maul two neighbors, including a woman whose arms were nearly ripped off.
Defense attorney Todd Leventhal said outside court Wednesday that Jesse Vonstaden feels terrible about the Monday attack, and thinks someone opened a gate to her yard after a police raid the day before at a neighbor's home.
The lawyer says the dogs weren't abused or trained to fight.

He says Vonstaden plans to fight charges of felony willful disregard and vicious dog that could get her up to 20 years in prison.
Police say the attack left a 65-year-old woman with critical arm, leg and facial injuries, and a man with a severe hand injury.
The judge set a March 11 preliminary hearing.
