Authorities say a man who had been arguing with a woman in Alabama threw an exercise weight through a car window, striking and fatally injuring their 2-year-old daughter.
Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Randy Christian tells AL.com that deputies responded to a domestic violence report Saturday and found Laila Reid unresponsive with injuries to the head and face. She died at a hospital.
Christian says the child's father, 38-year-old Ira Reid, had argued with the mother. When the mother got in a car to leave, the deputy says, Reid threw the weight, hitting the child seated inside. Christian says Reid acknowledged causing the injuries.
