Redlands police are investigating whether the local school district broke the law by failing to immediately report an allegation that a teacher was having sex with her student.
The Riverside Press-Enterprise says the Redlands Unified School District waited two months before reporting an alleged relationship between a 17-year-old boy and 28-year-old Laura Whitehurst. She allegedly gave birth to his child last month.
She's pleaded not guilty to 41 charges involving sex with three underage boys.

State law requires school districts to report reasonable suspicions of child abuse.
The district says it didn't report a May accusation because it was unsubstantiated and both student and teacher denied it. The district did notify police in July after the boy's mother made the same claim.
