A real estate developer who was shot in the head as he slept in suburban New York says his wife did it in an attempt to avoid a messy divorce.
The wife, Emily Dearden, is a psychologist with the New York Police Department. She has been charged with attempted murder. She denies the charge and her husband's allegations.
The husband, Kenneth Dearden, provided an unusually detailed look at the case in a lawsuit filed against her just two weeks before she was arrested.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}He says he woke up at 4 a.m. on Nov. 14, 2013, with searing pain in his jaw, which turned out to be from a gunshot to the base of his skull.
He says his wife had a longtime lover and wanted to end their marriage.
