Woman Arrested for Stabbing 5 at High School Football Game Melee

A 21-year-old woman is in custody after authorities say she stabbed five people during a fight at a high school football game.

Melanie Vanessa Mitchell was charged Monday with aggravated battery with a weapon, and is being held on $10,000 bond. More charges are expected.

Friday night's fight at Martin County High School occurred during a game between longtime rival South Fork High School. One person involved in the fight was Tasered by a deputy.

Detectives believe a rivalry existed between those involved in the stabbings. None of the injuries were life threatening. South Fork beat Martin County 35-10.

Mitchell's mother, Gloria Mitchell, said her daughter was defending herself from about 30 other girls who were beating her.
