U.N. Thriller to Debut at Tribeca Film Festival
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}"The Interpreter" (search), a thriller starring Nicole Kidman (search) and Sean Penn (search), will make its world premiere on opening night at this year's Tribeca Film Festival.
The movie, which Sydney Pollack (search) directed, will be screened April 19, festival organizers announced Tuesday.
Several scenes for the film were shot on location inside the United Nations (search) last year, which irked some diplomats — because they wanted to appear on camera and were replaced by actors.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Other films scheduled for the fourth annual festival include "House of Wax," a remake of the 1953 horror flick starring Elisha Cuthbert, Chad Michael Murray and Paris Hilton, and "Through the Fire," a documentary about Sebastian Telfair, who jumped from high school basketball to playing guard in the National Basketball Association.
Robert De Niro, his Tribeca Films partner, Jane Rosenthal, and her husband, Craig Hatkoff, organized the festival to help lower Manhattan rebound economically after the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
The first three years drew a reported 1 million visitors and brought more than $125 million to the local economy.
