A small plane registered in Maine crashes at Mansfield Airport, killing two people and leaving two others in critical condition.

Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Holly Baker says the plane arrived at the airport with two people onboard. It picked up two passengers, but crashed shortly after take off at about 10:45 this morning.

Baker says the pilot issued a Mayday because it wasn't climbing at a sufficient rate.

When the aircraft turned back, it stalled and crashed at the airport.

The four-seat Cessna 172 is registered to Twin Cities Air Service of Auburn, Maine.

The company offers charter air service, aviation services and flight instruction.

The names of the victims have not been released.
