A bus collided with a train in eastern Cuba, killing at least 28 people and injuring another 73, including 15 reported in critical condition, state television said.

Authorities were still investigating the cause of the accident that occurred shortly before noon Saturday in the province of Granma, about 500 miles east of Havana, according to a statement read on the nightly newscast.

The collision occurred in a small town at a railroad crossing, and the train dragged the bus before the bus fell below the bridge.
