Oregon Train Operator Fired After Ignoring Dad's Calls for Help
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Portland's mass transit agency has fired a light-rail train operator who ignored a father's calls for help after his 3-year-old son was left behind at a station last week.
TriMet general manager Fred Hansen said Wednesday the operator's decision was "unacceptable." TriMet has not named the operator but said he is a 20-year employee.
The father, Aaron Bailey, said he tried repeatedly to get the operator's attention via the train's emergency intercom. He wound up riding to the next stop, then doubling back to his son, who was safe on the platform with a woman who held the boy's hand until his father returned.
