A suburban New York City hospital is reinstating a brain surgeon who was suspended for failing to show up for surgery on a patient under anesthesia on the operating table.
Dr. Paolo Bolognese will be back next week at North Shore University Hospital after a four-week suspension.
His former boss Dr. Thomas Milhorat retired as chairman of neurosurgery last week after he was suspended for refusing to fill in for Bolognese. Milhorat had refused to do the surgery because the woman was not his patient.
North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System spokesman Terry Lynam tells the Daily News that Bolognese has the full support of the hospital administration.
The state Health Department is investigating the incident.
