Newborn Burned in Incubator 'Still Struggling'

Maverick Thomas Werth was born on January 21, and nearly died 12 hours later when a fire started under the hood of his incubator at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids. More than 18 percent of his body was badly burned.

His parents, Melissa and Justin Werth, told KARE-11 News that they were angry and upset over the accident. It was two weeks before they were finally able to hold their son.

Twenty days after the fire, the Werths were able to take their son home. Now six weeks old, he may still need skin grafts and the extent of his scarring isn't known.

The Werths have not yet taken any legal action, and investigators don't know what caused the fire.
