NEW YORK – New York State Attorney General Eliot Spitzer (search) on Thursday announced a lawsuit against Guidant Corp. (GDT), accusing the medical devices maker of hiding information about a defect in a heart defibrillator.
The lawsuit alleges Guidant (search) failed to inform doctors about a mechanical flaw that could cause the implanted device to malfunction "with potentially fatal consequences," Spitzer's office said in a statement.
