Authorities say they've arrested a Long Island driver who jumped from his Jeep to escape a police chase, leaving two children and two adults in the moving vehicle.
The Suffolk County Police Department says officers arrested the 41-year-old driver early Saturday after he led them on a high-speed chase in Mastic Beach.
Police say the driver slowed down and leaped from the Jeep, which was carrying his girlfriend, a 6-year-old, a 12-year-old and a second man. The male passenger managed to get behind the wheel and stop the vehicle. No one was injured.

Police say they chased the driver on foot and arrested him on charges of driving while intoxicated, resisting arrest and endangering the welfare of a child.
It's not clear whether the driver has a lawyer, and there's no phone number listed under his name.
