Largest Baseball Crowd in History Watches Red Sox Beat Dodgers
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}The game doesn't count, but don't tell that to the more than 115,000 fans who showed up at the Los Angeles Coliseum last night to be a part of the largest baseball crowd in history.
The exhibition matchup between the Dodgers and the Red Sox was part of the 50th anniversary celebration of the Dodgers' move to Los Angeles from Brooklyn. The Coliseum served as their first home before they moved to Dodger Stadium in 1962.
The Coliseum was built for track and football, not baseball.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}For last night's game, the distance from home plate to left field was just 201 feet. That's more Little League-sized than Major League. They put up a 60-foot-high screen to keep balls from flying out over the fence too easily. The effort couldn't stop a pair of Red Sox home runs. Boston won the game 7 to 4.
