A Houston doctor who acknowledged injecting at least 170 patients with a fake Botox product not approved for human use has been sentenced to prison.
A federal judge on Friday sentenced Gayle Rothenberg to nearly six months in prison. She also must pay more than $98,000 in restitution and cannot seek reinstatement of her medical license.
Rothenberg pleaded guilty to mislabeling the product and making false statements to law enforcement. She told a federal court in March that she stopped ordering Botox after a price increase and switched to an unapproved drug that cost half as much. She testified that she knew the drug was not for human use.

Rothenberg was convicted of defrauding patients in 2007, a verdict that was later overturned by appeal.
