BAGHDAD – A homicide truck bomber crashed the offices of a Kurdish political party in northern Iraq and detonated his explosives on Sunday, killing at least 10 people and injuring 60, including the mayor who was in his nearby office, health and security officials said.
The attack in Makhmur, 30 miles south of Irbil, targeted the office of the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Massoud Barzani, leader of the autonomous Kurdish region in northern Iraq. Makhmur is not part of the Kurdish-controlled areas of northern Iraq.
The blast also damaged nearby buildings, including the office of Mayor Abdul Rahman Delaf, a prominent Kurdish writer, who was wounded.
The attack came four days after a truck bombing in Irbil, the capital of the Kurdish self-governing region, killed at least 15 people and wounding more than 100.
