Fugitive Mom Returns to Michigan Jail After 33 Years
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}A woman who jumped the fence of a state prison in 1975 and made a new life for herself in Tennessee has waived extradition and will return to a Michigan jail.
Fifty-seven-year-old Rebecca Hatcher was captured Aug. 1 at her Camden, Tenn., home, MyFOX Detroit reported.
Michigan Corrections Department spokesman Russ Marlan says a private contractor will transport Hatcher to the Scott Correctional Facility in Plymouth within a week. She is being held in a Tennessee jail.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Authorities say Hatcher escaped from the Scott prison in 1975 after serving nearly 10 months of a 1- to 15-year sentence for an unarmed assault with intent to rob in Wayne County.
After her escape, she married Larry Ross and was living under the name Rebecca Ross, according to The News. Larry Ross could not be reached for comment, according to MyFOX Detroit.
Her sentence will be recalculated upon her return. The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office will decide if she's to be charged with escaping.
