DNC Chair: 'Excitement' Within Party
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}The chairman of the Democratic National Committee (search) said there's "excitement" among Democrats about the chances of beating President Bush in the general election.
Terry McAuliffe (search) says Democratic voters have been coming out in droves during the primary season, especially in Tuesday's contests in seven states.
Frontrunner John Kerry won most of the states. Former frontrunner Howard Dean had another disappointing showing.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}When asked on NBC's "Today" show whether he would encourage Dean to quit the race, McAuliffe said Dean will make up his own mind. He said Dean still has a chance to win the nomination — adding "anybody can."
McAuliffe said he has no intention of trying to "anoint" any of the candidates as the likely Democratic nominee.
