Workers at a transportation company say they are no longer threatening to pollute the Seine River with toxic substances if they are not given severance pay.
Serta is a transit firm outside the northwestern city of Rouen. Workers there voted unanimously against pouring fuel into the Seine if the firm refused to pay each worker who gets laid off $21,300.
Labor union representative Bruno Blainville said Monday that barrels containing nearly 2,115 gallons of toxic products have been removed from the company premises, where they had been stored.

The company has struggled to stay afloat and a bankruptcy court is now examining two possible buyers. The workers promised to stage further action against the possible buyers.
