With chill in air, Indy 500 gets under way with crash by Hildebrand in opening laps

The green flag dropped with a chill in the air for the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday, and it didn't take long for J.R. Hildebrand to bring out the first caution of the race.

The Panther Racing driver lost control in a turn and crashed into the outside wall after just three laps. It was Hildebrand who crashed on the final lap while leading two years ago.

The race resumed after Hildebrand's car was removed from the track with pole sitter Ed Carpenter leading the field. But all eyes were further back in the pack, where Helio Castroneves and Dario Franchitti were trying to become four-time winners of the race.

Marco Andretti was running second early on as he tries to end the "Andretti Curse."
