Borussia Monchengladbach's disappointing start to the season continued as they were beaten 2-1 by Werder Bremen on Sunday.

Aron Johansson gave the hosts the lead from the penalty spot after Anthony Ujah had been fouled inside the area. Gladbach drew level just before half-time when Lars Stindl scored his first goal for the club, but Jannik Vestergaard restored Bremen's lead early in the second half.

Felix Kroos missed a penalty after Granit Xhaka was sent off, but it did not prove to be a costly miss as the northern Germany side held on to all three points.
